Infrared radiation is a type of light whose wavelength is longer than that of visible light. ‘radiation’ in this context is a bit misleading because infrared radiation isn’t remotely harmful.
Observing infrared radiation can tell us a lot more about the world around us than looking at visible light. For example, warm objects constantly emit infrared radiation, so if you have a device that can see infrared, you can practically see in the dark. Infrared telescopes are also used extensively in astronomy because infrared radiation can penetrate areas of space that visible light can’t.
