Uh, this is the kind of question where you ask five people and get seven different answers. 🙂
As far as I am concerned, given that life seems to have popped up more or less by chance, with the right molecules floating around in the right place at the right time (over the course of a few billion years 🙂 ), I don’t think there can be a meaning to it. That may sound like a bad thing, but it isn’t. It just means we are entirely free to set our own meaning or purpose in life.
I have a few specific suggestions that should be on everyones personal list:
      – enjoy it
      – try to preserve it
It’s quite a magic thing to have, so it’s worth keeping, and passing on. 🙂

For me life makes it’s own meaning, it is not something that comes form outside. So then it will be a very personal thing, each person has their own meaning. But that does not mean that we are all selfish because for most people the meaning of life involves living in harmony with those around them…well for most of time!

As far as I’m concerned, we forge our own destinies. There is no great meaning behind life that we are predestined to fulfill.

I know that many people believe that we were all put on this planet for a purpose, and I respect that opinion. From my point of view though, so much of what happens on this planet is driven through nothing but pure chance and chaos. It’s up to all of us to find the things in life we care about, and to look after them.
