I think I started out the same as many other children, wanting to be what my father was – in my case someone selling tickets for the national railway.
I think that changed when I was 11 or 12 or so, when I figured I wanted to do something with physics and thought that becoming secondary school teacher for maths and physics would be the way to go. A few years later I became more interested in fundamental research, in going to the very basics to figure out how the universe works, and thus (helped by recommendation by my physics teacher) changed my plan and decided to become a particle physicist. Not that I knew much about what that meant in practice, but hey, I think I know *nowMATOMO_URL 🙂

I honestly did want to a scientist very early on (aged 8 or so). To start with I thought I wanted to do something with electronics but along the way I realized that I wanted to work on the most fundamental questions. So I was drawn towards particle physics which is the study of the universe at the most fundamental level….something I’ve never regretted…

How far back are we going? When I was about 4 years old I wanted to be an ice cream truck driver. You get to travel around the country making kids happy and eating all the ice cream you desire!
